Golden League Football Showcase Gives Local Athletes Shot at College Recruitment

The Golden League Football teams had the opportunity to showcase their talent and skills together for college coaches and recruiters. The Showcase was organized by AVC (Antelope Valley College) head football coach, Gordon Russell. “I wanted a one stop shop for the College Coaches to recruit the Golden League Football Players. This valley is very talented; our Student Athletes deserve the accolades/recognition.” said Coach Russell. “We want all of our student Athletes to understand that this valley has always been and still is relevant with A great School District and Great Co-Curricular activity program.”

All rising juniors and seniors that met the NCAA criteria were qualified to participate in the showcase. The student athletes participated in a number of drills in order to record their new statistics. The exercises included the L- Drill, Pro-Shuttle, 40 yard dash, Broad Jump as well as competing in one on one competitions. Not only did this allow the students to challenge themselves but it also gave them the opportunity to impress any incognito college recruiters that could be watching them.
“I’m really interested in out of state, I’m interested in Miami” said Joshua Suarez an 11th grade Quarterback from Palmdale High School, “ I feel like. I overperformed many quarterbacks that are here. I trained a lot. I feel like me showing my talents today is going to prove to these college coaches what they are missing.”

Throughout the day, student athletes were able to encourage their teammates while also getting to network with other rivaling schools. A unique way to end the school year and look forward to next year’s football season. “You know, A showcase like this encourages our students by putting them in front of everybody, so they can see where they stand, where they measure up against the other competition out here in Antelope Valley.” stated Palmdale High School Head Football Coach, Anthony Coleman. “ I’m just excited to get out in front of all these other coaches, high school and college coaches, and see what they can do.”
