Littlerock artist, Xochilt Garcia, won the year-long California Creative Corps Artist Fellowship that takes place from July 7, 2023 – July 31, 2024! The California Creative Corps Artist Fellowship was only granted to 33 artists in the Los Angeles and Orange Counties, out of 93 applicants! This highly competitive fellowship grants its artists full support of their living costs for one year. The fellowship also supports artists’ project costs.

With this phenomenal opportunity, Xochilt established project VRTU with co-founder and professional musician, Christopher Fuentes! Xochilt was determined to inspire her community to pursue careers in the prominent aerospace industry that we are fortunate to have here in the Antelope Valley! Project VRTU highlights the increasing representation of the Hispanic community in the aerospace industry. Xochilt and Christopher have also created a podcast to listen to, as well as spread the stories of Hispanic aerospace professionals in our community.

Another wonderful aspect of this fellowship program was the partnership the fellows created with their mentors. Xochilt got paired with our wonderful AVUHSD Board of Trustees Vice President and Antelope Valley College Professor, Carla Corona! We are beyond thrilled to be able to see the success and trail of inspiration led by Xochilt Garcia. We send our congratulations and gratitude for all that you do to inspire and uplift our AV community!
