Another Solar Car Challenge is in the books for Palmdale’s incredible solar car team! Earlier this month, the group went to Texas to put their handiwork skills to the test in this exciting competition. Through scrutineering, daily challenges, and creating meaningful connections with people in the local community, these students gained valuable problem-solving and team-building skills.

Taking in the sights as they competed, the team stopped by a World War II era aircraft at an airport museum along the race route during their required rest stop. Later in the week in Fredericksburg, TX, the group stopped at Ewald Kubota, a local business that allowed them to park in their lot to recharge their batteries. The staff welcomed the students with such hospitality, talked with them about the Solar Car Challenge, and gave them ice pops to cool down. On the last day of the race, the team drove to the Historic 1901 Irion County Courthouse for a team photo with their car in front of the court house. The photos taken by each team will be printed and presented to the county judge, who held up the demolition of the courthouse for the event.

The team’s hard work and perseverance earned them second place overall in the competition. Shout out to the Solar Car team, and congratulations on this amazing accomplishment as they represented AVUHSD!
