The 2nd Annual “Welcome to AVUHSD” Newcomer Conference Highlights

The Antelope Valley Union High School District and the Multilingual Department proudly hosted the 2nd Annual “Welcome to AVUHSD” Newcomer Conference on Tuesday, October 29th at the AV Fairgrounds! Over 400 students and staff gathered for an inspiring day that featured guest speaker, Dr. Gonzalo Hernandez-Hernandez from UC Davis. Dr. Hernandez-Hernandez, a Dreamer and DACA recipient, shared his personal journey to becoming a doctor and heart health scientist at UC Davis, offering a powerful story of resilience and success.

The event continued with four engaging workshops focused on graduation pathways, post-high school opportunities, financial aid, and mental health, providing essential guidance for students. Multiple community organizations were also present to share valuable resources and growth opportunities. The day concluded with an exciting student raffle and an encouraging call to make the most of all that AVUHSD has to offer to support their future success!
